Themes Essay

The Outsiders “Themes” Essay

The Outsiders is a great book where Ponyboy (Aka the Narrator) who tells a story from his point of view about the War between two sides: The Soc’s (The Socials; Rich, live social lives) and the Greasers (Long slick hair, poor, non-social lives). The main plot of the story is that Ponyboy and his buddy Johnny are cornered by the Soc’s (You can find and read this in Chapter 4) and Bob (The leader of the Soc’s) orders his second hand man Randy, to give Ponyboy a “Bath”. Nearly drowning Ponyboy, Johnny couldn’t take it, he pushed the limit. He ran past everyone of the Greasers only to go for Bob, brings out his switch blade and kills bob. And now they are on the run from the Greasers and the Law fearing that they would get the Electric Chair.

Themes for this story, there are many but the main one just from the Plot, would be Survival Its obviously survival. How? Here is how. First off right out of the hat, the Plot. They are running from the Law. Plus they killed a Soc. The kill was for survival. Sometimes in life you do what it takes. Next are the Children in the church and the Fire. When the church bursts into flames Johnny and Ponyboy made the decision to save those children, there was no time to get help. They chose to do it for the children’s lives. They sacrificed their lives (Literally for Johnny {Spoiler}) for the children’s own survival.

Last but not least when the Soc’s cornered Ponyboy and Johnny, Ponyboy tried to stand up to the Soc’s for Johnny. He was the kind of guy who was afraid, a lost kid at a amusement park. He tried to have them back off so he and Johnny could escape. But of course that didn’t happen, but even if it did it would count as survival. You do what it takes in the world to survive. Kill, eat, drink, etc. This story clearly states that Survival is indeed one of the plotlines for The Outsiders

Point of View Piece

War Comes to Willy Freeman

War comes to Willy freeman, what is it about?

An African-American teenager's life dramatically changes in the late 1700s during the American Revolutionary War. One terrible day, Willy Freeman watches her father die in a battle while fighting on the American side, and when she returns home, her mother is missing. Dressed in an outfit that makes her look like a boy, she sets off on a journey towards New York City, because she believes that British soldiers may have taken her mother there.

Willy Freeman is the main character as most people know, and is the story’s point of view. The book is about Willy Freeman’s point of view of several events, and also from this perspective the events are described in a way that is very, realistic, or let’s say graphic, or literal. A way the main character’s point of view (Willy Freeman) that really influences the reader’s interpretation is how this point of view shows when for example when Willy’s father dies, she puts things down to detail, like if someone were to describe a certain event this is how she did it.

But you know sometimes the reader would have said it should’ve ended this way or this should end that way. For example like if it was from another person’s point of view; let’s say the Dad; the story would be a lot different because it is in his point of view, not Willy’s anymore. So like I said the Point of View Piece (War comes to Willy Freeman) you can only see one side of an event in the book you are forced to see this one side, unless of course you were to create your own Point of view.

Bob’s final Hour

A response to “The Outsiders” Chapter 4

“There!” I said “There’s two of ‘em”. Randy pulled the blue mustang over to the two Greasers. They knew what we were here for. “Let’s go, Randy come on” We all got out. We had no trouble getting close. “Perfect” We all seemed to think. “That kid Dally ain’t around, this will be a breeze”. I looked at that one Greaser Johnny, the kid we beat before; he was white as a Ghost I’m tellin ya. And his buddy, I think David heard him say Ponyboy. Dang, where do people get these names these days? They realized when they are outnumbered, they started backing up. If it wasn’t for that fountain, we’d be on a wild goose chase. “Hey guys look,” I said “Here’s the little greasers that picked up our Girls. Hey Greasers”. Johnny then said in a scared voice “You outa your territory, you’d better watch it”. I then thought about Dally. None of us could stand against him. But then I knew that he ain’t here. had the others take a quick look, see if their Darry was around.

David told me that there was no sign of him, good; this’ll be nice and easy. We walked up to them, I had my fellow Soc’s surround ‘em, made sure they didn’t escape. Randy swore at the little guys. I followed up and said “Nup pals, yer the ones who’d better watch it. Next time you want a broad, pick up your own kind dirt”. We could tell the one to the right that he was mad. He was shaking either because of the cold night, or his own rage. I told the enemy gang “You know what a greaser is, White Trash with long hair” We had a good laugh. Then the kid on the right, PonyBoy was it was furious. He spat out “You know what a Soc is, White Trash with Mustangs and madras”. That little brat spat and it landed on my new $54 Shoes. I shook my head, smiling slowly. I qued David to get ready.

“You could use a bath greaser” I said slowly “And a working over, and we’ve got all night to do it. Give the Kid a bath, David”. It wasn’t long before David had PonyBoy’s arm behind his back. He then plunged his face into the fountain. Randy then said “That’s one less kid to take care of”. Johnny then saw that PonyBoy was relaxing, the bubbles slowed. Then Johnny gave an angry scream, he rushed past Randy and the others, I couldn’t tell what he was doing until I felt it, a switch blade in my lung. I tried to yell for help, but they were all so surprised. They all ran from me, all of them, David saw me, he took PonyBoy outa the fountain and took off. I then started to relax. Finally, with all of the strength I had, I finally said “You – you little--” I was cut off by another puncture in my back; I opened my mouth in pain. I found my eyes closing. Then they were shut. Forever.

Are You Proud Of Your Country? Why? Why Not?

I am very proud of this country. Why? Because I am one of it’s very inhabitants of America, I am a born and raised American. I am one of the millions of people living free in the country. How are people living free? Because of it's success in wars, survival, helping others, and also hoping. We are a country, that unlike most countries, help other countries in need, we protect or citizens with the U.S. Army, Navy, Marines, and Air Force. Like the commercials say "It's not science Fiction, it's what we do everyday". And this would never be without President Obama. He helped us with the defeat of Osama Bin Laden, the most wanted man in the world who planned and excecuted an attack that killed 3,000 Americans in 2001. Thank god for this country

Original Pieces

Original Piece (Final Draft)

Halo Reach: Is it a good game?

Yes it is, it is one of the top selling games of all time. How can it be described? It can’t. It is so awesome no one can describe it. It is a wonderful game, it sold out more copies than Modern Warfare 2 in 3 months. How is it so good people ask. Well this is how
Right off the bat, Campaign, Campaign is a game mode where the player play as Spartan B312, or known as Noble six. And the player plays along with your team with Carter, Kat, Emile, Jun, and Jorge, the player can experience what a real first person shooter is. The plotline is amazing. On the planet reach, one of the Inner Colony planets, you Noble six, has been recently dispatched to a team of 6 (Including yourself) to investigate the player’s first mission. Investigate a downed relay outpost.

What turns out from a simple search of a missing squad of troopers, to the survival of the very planet. The covenant, a alliance consisting of different extraterrestrial species, have found reach, and taken down one of relay outposts to the other colonies throughout space. From there it’s your job to stop them in 10 different missions. From rescuing troopers, to taking the battle to space. Next game type, Matchmaking. Matchmaking is a game type to where the player can play with people online, anywhere on this planet, only if you have internet. There are different modes you can play in, co-operative, competitive, DLC, and the Beta.

Co-operative is where the player can play on 5 different playlists: Co-op Campaign, is where you and 3 other people can play on a mission in Campaign; Score Attack, is when you can rack up points as you take down endless waves of covenant; Firefight Doubles, is a Game type where you and 1 other person take down your covenant foes; Firefight Limited, Is you with 3 other people play a firefight game where the game ends when everyone has lost all 7 lives; Firefight Arcade, last but not least, and the most exciting, is 4 people (Including Yourself) go on a fun fight for survival as the take on several fun types of Firefight Arcade. There are unlimited lives.

Competitive is where the player and up to 15 other people can go against each other in a free for all match, a team battle, or a objective match. There are several main types of competitive. First, Slayer. Slayer is a game type to where the player and 15 other people can go against each other, or separate the 16 people into teams and fight together in a fight for survival. Whichever team has the most kills wins. Then there is Infection. Infection is a game type when someone starts out as a “Zombie”. Then the zombie has to kill everyone in the game you are playing. When you kill someone, they become the zombie too, so then two zombies against however amount of people, then three, thenfour, then five, then six, etc. Eventually once everyone in the game except for one person AKA, the “Last Man Standing”. The Last Man Standing has more health than the average player. And when he is “Infected” the round ends, another one begins, and this goes on for two more rounds. Then the game ends
Finally there is Invasion. Invasion is a team objective match where one team is the humans and the other are covenant. What happens is that the Elites would go through the objectives, capture them, and get to the main objective, the core. Sometimes the game can be flipped and the humans go through the objectives and capture the core

Then there are 2 different Game Modes, Custom Games, and forge
Forge, is one of the most popular game types in the Halo series. Forge is where you can create and edit your own and somebody’s maps. You can create anything if you put your mind to it. For example, some friends made a ship made out of nothing but windows, walls and building blocks. Last but not least, Custom games. Custom games is a game mode where you make the rules. You can select the map, game type, game options, loadouts etc. For example on a map called sword base, the player selects a game type they want let’s say infection. And then you set the options and start the game and play it. You can have up to 16 people in custom games.

That is how Halo: Reach is a great game. Hope that other people will buy this very favorited game. Have fun with. Everyone will enjoy it. Many people play it, and so can others.

Halo First Strike
Halo: First Strike, the epic sequel to the original Xbox game Halo: Combat Evolved. It’s a story that takes place in the year 2552, where we humans have found other planets to successfully live and breathe rather than live on the first planet in the inner colonies, Earth. However, we have discovered a (Replace it with “an” so it makes more sense) unknown species during the process, The Covenant, led by their leaders The Prophets plan to take out and wipe out all human population.
The plotline of the story is the main character; John (Known as Master Chief 117) is in his Longsword (A bomber if you don’t already know) when he doubts his own survival (List why he doubts his own survival), A Covenant Cruiser (CCS Class) approaches to search through Halo’s debris (What is Halo?), prior to its explosion, to destroy the flood, a Parasite that when it takes or controls a life form, takes over its body, turns in then into a combatant form, and finally a carrier form which carries flood spores which from there an entire species can be brought to extinction.
So John plans an attack against the Cruiser when Cortana (An A.I.) (What’s an A.I.?) notices an oddly looking asteroid. A closer look shows that there is a Pelican (A human drop ship) with survivors onboard. They then plan a life or death rescue mission. It succeeds, and they take the survivors onboard. From there they plan a mission to highjack one of the CCS cruisers, and take it to their home planet reach to see if they can find survivors on the glassed planet. They infiltrate the ship and kill all hostiles onboard. Then Cortana helps the crew learn how to pilot the massive ship.
Soon after they highjack the vessel they “Jump” to Planet Reach, one of the main planets of human controlled space, but was invaded by covenant and killed nearly every living being on the planet. Where John finds his squadron. Kelly, Kurt, Sam, and other remaining Spartans in an old forerunner base in the planet. (What’s a forerunner) Then they begin on a quest to stop an invasion on earth. A humongous covenant base station (What’s the name of it?). The rest continues in the next book the Cole Protocol.

Writing Circle Piece: Mistakes

Mistakes, mistakes are very bad, well I don't really know how to say it. We all make mistakes. Like me. I make lots of them, from spelling, to tripping. There was this time where I was sprinting to my bedroom, and my sister got in the way, and she flew. It was SOOOOOOO funny I couldn't stop laughing. But then I was told to stop laughing, but then guess what, my sister starts laughing. I was very confused. I still don't know why to this day. I'm scared of her now.
