The Lone Duck

In an old countryside, near a small town on the prairie, lies a small pond. There, lives a Duck. The duck swims and fishes, alone, flies, alone, and quacks, alone. Each day, the duck spends most of its time, looking at the dark sky, it’s cold and wet. As snow falls to the ground, the duck remembers its fate leading up to this moment. It was mid-fall. A duck flying with its companions from youth towards the south where it is warm, as they were flying over a small town in the countryside. As they were flying over a small pond, there was a crack in the air. The duck found itself falling, as with some of its other companions. The Duck managed to fall into the pond. Looking out, it sees the flock, flying away, half torn. Then as it went black, it saw two tall figures, wandering through the grass, picking up bodies of its companions. Then to its surprise, the duck awoke; now regretting that he ever did.

The story "The lottery"  by Shirley Jackson, is a short story based on the time of the great depression. The story theme is Irony because of what happens in the book. How is the story Irony?
One theme for the short story "The Lottery"  is Irony. An example of this theme throughout the story is when How the main character, Tessie, is so excited to see who "wins" the lottery. But then she sees that her husband gets it, she gets mad and claims that "They didn't give him a chance to pick". Also another one good example would be when she gets picked, when she gets picked her friend who tells her to be quiet and it was fair, she ends up picking the largest stone to throw at Tessie.

Godzilla

Author’s Note: this piece was created to retell the events of the monster movie classic “Godzilla”

1954, during the First World War, Japan was testing nuclear bombs in the pacific. One was the H-bomb, an Atomic Bomb. After testing, the radiation had affected any living thing within a 10 mile radius. One of them was presumed to be a lizard, an iguana type animal. The radiation transformed it (The lizard)  into one of Japan’s worst nightmares, a monster, “Gojira”, A monster, 300 foot tall, with large spikes on its back, and the worst part, it could breathe a atomic “ray” that can send a force of an atomic bomb. What really happened the time when Godzilla was formed?

The main capital of Japan, Tokyo, after the first attack from Godzilla, a sea of fire from the monster’s havoc.  Then it disappeared into the depths of the pacific, where it rested in a trench. Since then until 1955 there have been many attacks from Godzilla, mostly attacking Power sources and nuclear plants. Why? Somehow, the energy given from those areas attracted Godzilla because Godzilla is made up of radiation, so it would think that there would be another let’s say Godzilla, and needed to protect his territory.

One day, a man named Dr. Serizawa invented something worse than the Atomic Bomb, the Oxygen destroyer. It lived up to its name. The chemical compound can destroy any oxygen within a large radius (Hasn’t been tested on land for obvious reasons) so when Godzilla headed into Tokyo bay once again from another attack, they dove after the beast.

The divers found Godzilla resting along the trench, they place the bomb and one of the divers went up, but Dr. Serizawa stayed down, saying “I will die with my work, so no more copies of this weapon or my knowledge can be used for weaponry”. So he cuts his line of air, and he set off the Oxygen destroyer, and Godzilla and Serizawa, were both disinagrated within seconds, and other livings under the water for a large radius. And all of the troubles are over. Japan is finally in peace, but Godzilla will forever be in everyone’s nightmares. This, is what the time when Godzilla was formed, and the citizens of Japan were affected by it.

The last living flower in the Garden

The sprout of my form to the end, it was the most beautiful experience. Seeing all of the others sprout, younger ones, and watching the scenery, of the many foothills of the land I was born on . But, as winter approached, I watched as so many of my brothers and sisters fall to the lack of sun. The soil is starting to harden, the rain is ever been so cold, the sun rises farther down to the ground, more night than day. I ever so has the luck for I have a clear view of the sun's rising and setting. I feel as if every night is my last when resting. My luck shall end when the first snowfall shall bury me from the sun's rays and into a frozen slumber. If only I had more time.

Cloning
A Science Research Paper

Has someone went and said “I just want to make another me, and send him to do my job” or “Have another me do my homework”. Those expressions are everywhere from television to today’s hardworking citizens. There is a solution though called Cloning, where you can replicate the same organism with the same genes and everything, basically a pair of Artificial Twins. Cloning is a difficult process of large proportions, but how does it work?

What is cloning? Cloning is the creation of an organism that is an exact genetic copy of another. This means that every single bit of DNA is the same between the two! So if took two cows and clone them, they would be the exact same in every way. A cloning method, known as "somatic cell nuclear transfer" or simply "nuclear transfer," requires two kinds of cell.  One is a “somatic” cell, which is collected from the animal that is to be cloned (known as the "genetic donor").

A somatic cell is any cell other than a sperm cell or egg cell, and contains the complete DNA, or genetic blueprint, of the animal it came from.  For cloning purposes, somatic cells are typically obtained by a “routine skin biopsy” performed by a veterinarian. The scientist stimulates the fused egg, which "activates" the egg and causes it to divide just as an egg would if it had been fertilized by a sperm cell in conventional reproduction.  The activated egg is then placed in a culture medium.

As cellular division continues over the course of several days, a blast cyst (early-stage embryo)is created.  After about a week, an embryo transfer specialist moves the “blast cyst” to a recipient female (Also called a "Surrogate Mother") where it continues to develop.  After a full-term pregnancy, the “Surrogate Mother” gives birth to an animal that is essentially the identical twin of the genetic donor.

So Cloning, a difficult process, even for the smartest people can have trouble understanding the physics of Cloning. Will there be a time where human cloning can exist, and clone somebody, or is the Government going to keep illegalized what cannot be done yet? And now, those expressions can become a reality

The Mona Lisa

Part II: Search Party

Recap: “Captain” Sergeant Alison asked, “We just recovered a civilian escape pod in the debris field. “Tell me you aren’t joking,”…….. “Dang,” the corporal said, “Thing looks beaten up”. “Corporal open the hatch”…. Inside, a man in a orange shirt and pants, and a pool of blood surrounding him. “Sergeant!” the marine said…. “A prisoner?” …….The Sergeant asked “What is your name?” she asked “*Cough* Uhhh….. J-J-John” he replied………“What is the name of your ship, where were you before?” She asked in a serious tone. “You d-d-don’t want to know, if you do YOU WILL ALL *Cough* *Cough*” “TELL ME the name of Your Ship” “Sergeant” the private yelled, “Biosigns are failing”…… “What is the name of your?” He breathed once, twice, then faintly said, with his last breath.

“The Mona…..Lisa….”

“…You and your squad should send a search party for this ship, find some answers” the holographic figure said. “Sir we have a blip on the radar” The admiral said. “What is it?” The captain said in a calm tone. “Large sir, not human- -” “Covenant?” The captain asked, knowing obviously that it is Covenant. “Yes sir, large CCS cruiser” The sergeant walked up to deck. “Do you think that Covenant ship and the Prison ship are linked, the prisoner’s wounds show 3rd degree burns and two puncture wounds, The medic is saying it’s from a energy sword. “The co-ordinates from the Mona Lisa show the ship being 150 kilometers away, there is no way that they are linked or…” The Captain walked over to the A.I. and whispered something. Holographic files appeared on the console. As he looked through the reports, he stopped at the last one “Of course, that CCS ship is out there because that prison ship, has a, mix of prisoners”

The sound of thrusters filling the Hangar bay as the pilot flipped the switches on the console. “Alright, let’s go, we are on minimal fuel here, I’m droppin you guys off and I’m out, I’ll have to come back in about 30 mikes. Let’s ride!” The clicking of rifles and checking magazines filled the small ship as it flew out of the Titanium A 5 inch armor and into the vastness of space. “Sergeant, what the Captain said, there are Covenant on the Prison ship, and how?” “I don’t know corporal, but they have no weapons on the ship. Be careful, they are Elites” “ELITES!?” The corporal exclaimed. “Oh man, we are screwed” “They have no weapons and we do, and no armor, and we do, killing them will be a breeze” The rumbling of the ship stopped. “Alright, this is our stop, give ‘em what they asked for” She said. A loud Hooah from the marines filled the ship as the door hissed open. They exited the small craft and as soon as the last man stepped off, the door shut. And they were on their own.

“Kick some butt down there guys” the pilot said through the comm, as the ship exited the entrance bay of the ship. “Alright guys, keep your heads on tight, ‘cause were about to go into the ship’s main walkway. “Corporal, move up!” As he went for the door, the speaker in the sergeants headphones screamed with frequency, and a voice of a woman came through,”Who is this!” Yelled the Sergeant “They destroyed the ship, I’m hit I’m coming in for a landin- -” Static went through the mic. As they looked back at the hangar bay, a flaming ship, the horse they rode on, is ablaze. “Get out of the hangar bay NOW!!” They all ran, like birds flying from a crocodile in the water. They got through the door. The lights went out as the ship crashed into the power system. “Crap! Lost all power!” “Gah, another bad intrusion” As they turned on their lights, the 7 foot tall elites already had ‘em. “GAHHHH!!” Screamed the private and the Gunnery sergeant yelled, they dropped their weapons as the Elites had ‘em at the throat. Their lights broke, the crew was in darkness. Only one window light up, and that was the one with their ship Aegis Fate ablaze, split in two

They were never heard from again.

Parody of Blood Ninja

I may have killed your Father

And I am sorry

For he was a good man

And to you a good father

But it was for a purpose

He has brought death around me

Slain my mother, and has killed my foster father

Become a bother to all

And for that,

He must die

This poem relates to Blood Ninja at the end of the book where Taro kills Lord

Oda, and Taro in the poem is talking to his daughter about why he killed her father and

also why he must die before he actually killed him. The speaker is Taro to Lady Hana,

Lord Oda’s Daughter. The tone of the Poem is murderer. The mood is sorrow, or hatred
